Uisge (pronounced ush'guh) is the Scottish Gaelic word for 'water', the original state of our world until fire and earth burst forth and our ancestors emerged from the primordial oceans. It is the sustaining force of this world, but also our demise. The water of life grants immortality and cures all ailments and comes crashing down in floods from heavenly gates to cleanse, a tale found across the world. In being made mostly of water our bodies are reflections of the planet, and we are bound to it. Our bodies are dust, and to dust we shall return, but our souls shall always belong to the ancient waters.
